For my Typography II class, I designed a modular typeface inspired by modern Art Deco aesthetics. The typeface includes an all-lowercase alphabet, along with a full set of symbols and numbers. To showcase the typeface, I created a 15x20" display poster with a simple design, clean lines, and a retro illustration to complement the typeface's vintage yet modern vibe. The minimalist layout emphasizes the geometric precision of the typeface, while the retro illustration adds a touch of character and context.
I began the process by sketching ideas for a modular typeface inspired by modern Art Deco aesthetics, focusing on creating letterforms from consistent modular pieces. After refining the components, I developed the typeface through multiple iterations and critique sessions, fine-tuning variations to achieve a cohesive design. Using the Fontself program, I transformed the typeface into a fully functional font. To showcase the design, I created a clean, minimal 15x20" poster featuring the typeface alongside a retro illustration, combining simplicity with vintage charm. Two rounds of critiques helped finalize the poster, ensuring it effectively highlighted the typeface's versatility and style.
